The ability to adapt to situations, embrace change or seek personal growth can lead to a higher level of success in almost every area of life’s experiences. I find there is always someone willing to help or teach us new skills in these ever-changing times, just need to ask.
There have been a few questions/enquiries with regards online therapy sessions, the most frequent raised I have tried to address below.
Technology Issues
In answer to the most regular remarks, “I’m not conversant with modern technology, or use of different media platforms”. This is something I fully connect with. I am no tech wizard and know how the acquisition of any new skill can initially seem slow, frustrating, or even off putting, but be patient with yourself. I can assure you that in no time, a little practice, you will refine your skills and become competent in what you want to achieve. Setting up links is easier than some might think Please ask for guidance as I am always happy to help.
Having a session cut short
Internet connections can drop out occasionally, it is a small inconvenience that can easily be solved. Generally, a quick telephone call will establish if the session can be restored, rescheduled, or continued with by another method.
Confidentiality and Privacy
With regards confidentiality/privacy, any therapist interested in meeting the demand for online services need to respect the ethical issues around shared information. “The General Dater Protection Act” (GDPR) updated in April 2018 is a legal framework that sets guidelines for the collection and processing of personal information from individuals and is in the interest of clients confidential and privacy rights.
Transforming Therapies has firewalls, password protection, and virus protection to protect, filter and block outsiders from gaining unauthorised access to private data. Individual meetings are set up with their own URLs, ID’s and passcodes on Teams or Zoom to help make these connections secure and any data gets backed up to a secure external storage hard drive.
Risks & Benefits
There are always risks no matter what, being sufficiently risk informed is important in the decision-making process of how a client may wish to proceed.
The benefits of online face to face communication provides the same valuable contextual cues much like an attended person to person session. Cues such as the tone of voice, facial expression, and body language all help aid interpretation of a given situation for considering what resolves may be available, whereas text-based communication is far more open to misunderstanding and misinterpretation if taken out of context.
Social media has been about for some time with many people using online communications; platforms such as Teams, Skype, Zoom are rapidly developing their communications and collaborative ecosystems so the delivery of business and individual meetings have secure links via designated URLs, ID’s and passcodes.

Cancellation and Rescheduling Bookings
At this time when many things seem so unpredictable bookings will always remain subject to amendment without any cancellation fee. Notice is always appreciated but more important is the need that the client’s finds a suitable time and quite space for their personal consultation. Concerns about a session being interrupted, whether by unexpected events, family members or the beloved pet can always be remedied by a quick text or phone call.
