At times people lose touch with their inner selves, the connection to their inner guidance with the sense or feelings of being lost as what to do; this might be expressed as

  • Being anxious or worried
  • Indecisive, pent-up anger
  • Resentment
  • Constantly distracted
  • Stuck on past situations
  • Unable to see the bigger picture and caught up in the little things

There are many other areas of human distress relating to health or life changing situations that leaves feelings of uncertainty, this is where people may explore and use hypnotherapy as a way of reconnecting, reflecting, in search of an effective relief or solution.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change – Wayne Dye

Hypnotherapy is widely accepted, and a tool used by many healthcare organisations as a meaningful alternative to address unsatisfactory ways of thinking, feeling, or behaving.

It provides an opportunity to access deeper levels of inner potentials using constructive methods or approaches that encourages change. It helps to set scene for what might follow in establishing new thought patterns, a change in actions or responses by altering perceptions to a far more supportive mindset, a healthier lifestyle and desired outcome.

Hypnosis is often described as an altered state of mind, reached via mental and physical relaxation in which the subconscious can communicate with the conscious.

Hypnotherapy can be extremely effective and powerful when all the right ingredients come together; those ingredients are, importantly, that of the client’s attitude toward the therapy, the time is right, and there is a clear and realistic goal formulated that a client is ready to work towards.

Self-Hypnosis is also a very practical and useful skill, something almost everyone can acquire with practice, for the purpose of problem solving, for relaxation and for creativity and most therapists would be happy to teach these techniques for the purpose of self-empowering a client.

Is Hypnotherapy suitable for me?

Not all people are candidates to undergo hypnosis. Whilst many people consider hypnotherapy a gentle process leading into relaxation for others it can seem a particularly anxious or stressful experience. The notion of revealing some inner most secrets, losing control, or not coming back from some deep mysterious state of unconsciousness are of real concern for some people. through an initial case history and sharing of information the client becomes informed of the process with the opportunity in seeking as much information relieving them of any fears so they can make an informed decision, as to what’s right for them.

For some people with certain conditions hypnotherapy is not recommended such as the following and generally where there is a known case history of events.

  • Brain trauma or cognitive deficits
  • Depressive illness
  • Borderline psychosis (e.g. schizophrenia)
  • Delusional disorder
  • Some breathing problem
  • Epilepsy
  • Drug or alcohol abuse
  • Dependent personalities

Pain is another area of consideration and should only be addressed using hypnotherapy if the underlying cause has been determined by a physician.

Clinical Hypnotherapy Sessions

As a clinical hypnotherapist I work with the client to formulate a tailored approach that meets their personal needs. Everyone is unique, so too are the situations, needs and goals. Every mindset is different leading to individual perceptions and understandings. Concentrating on a brief evaluation, enables therapist and client to find solutions in the form of future hopes for a swift conclusion of any problems raised in the present.

Methods

Methods and techniques used during sessions may vary using a combination of my acquired skills such as psychotherapy, neurolinguistic programming (NLP). Metaphorical representations that makes a comparison by causally relating one thing to another that can help make a complex thought easier to understand. The use of cognitive/behavioural methods may be recommended to help identify, challenge, and replace unhelpful response patterns with better helpful patterns, healthy thoughts, emotions, and feelings. It is these types of methods that helps personalise and tailor each individual session in hypnotherapy.
